During the middle of an intense thunderstorm, Lamoille County 911 received a call from a couple who said they had been hit by lightning and were huddled under a rock at the top of the Cliff Trail on the Long Trail on Mt. Mansfield.  Team member Van Dyke talked to the reporting party by phone and determined that they were uninjured, but were extremely scared, wet and cold.  After consulting with the National Weather Service it was determined that another 30 minutes of severe thunderstorm activity was expected for the area, and the party was instructed to get down off the ridge and start hiking down the Cliff Trail.  The team was dispatched to assist.  The subjects were able to make their way down to the top of the gondola lift and take shelter at the Cliff House, where they awaited transport by the team's ATV to the base.  They were evaluated by Stowe Rescue and were not transported to the hospital.
