Team leader Van Dyke received a phone call from Stowe Police requesting his assistance in attempt to locate a lost hiker that they had cell phone contact with, but were unable to determine his location.  After arriving on scene Van Dyke spoke with the subject and was able to determine that he had hiked up from Smuggler's Notch to the ridge north of the summit of Mt. Mansfield, past Bear Pond, and headed north until the trail petered out. He kept walking for another hour and had reached a log landing. A phone call identified two potential logging locations in Jeffersonville based on his description, and the Cambridge Fire Dept. was notified. They were able to locate the subject using 4-wheelers and bring him out of the woods.

A 35 year old male subject became lost while hiking near Moss Glen Falls. He had called a friend to pick him up at 17:00 and didn't show up. He later called on his cell phone and was able to describe his location to the team on a snowmobile trail. As team members started what should have been a 5 or 10 minute walk to get him, some other hikers ran across him and started walking in a different direction. They eventually found their way out, but almost an hour later.

A woman fell and injured her knee when hiking up the Hazelton Trail  on Mt. Mansfield. Fortunately it was just at the point where it crosses the Cliff Trail (ski trail), which made access by 4-wheeler possible. Subject was initially treated by Stowe Mountain Resort first aid personnel, then evacuated by the team's 4-wheeler and rescue toboggan. A backup team took the gondola and was hiking to the patient, but was not needed.

Vermont State Police requested assistance in locating several subjects who called 911 on their cell phones from the summit ridge of Mt. Mansfield, saying they were "lost." Repeated attempts to call them back were unsuccessful, but given the description of where they said they were, it was decided to wait to see if they would find their way off the mountain, which should have been quite straightforward. Stowe Police was requested to check the Toll Road, but the subjects walked out on their own before arriving on scene.

Stowe and Upper Valley were tasked with removing the subject's body after the investigation was complete.

Bolton Valley Ski Patrol called to advise of an overdue XC skier who was believed to be headed into the Cottonbrook area (had separated from his wife while skiing). Before initiating a search, BVSP called back to say that they had made cell phone contact with the subject and he had backtracked toward Bolton Valley. An hour later BVSP had still been unable to locate him, and found no tracks where he said he was.
