Five students from Champlain College hiked up to the summit ridge of Mt. Mansfield from Underhill State Park. They didn't start their hike until 3:30pm, and started to run out of daylight as they started down the Halfway House Trail. They called 911 and were advised to return to the summit ridge and proceed to the parking lot at the top of the Toll Road. It got dark before they were able to get to the Toll Road, and again called 911 reporting that they were cold and wet and needed rescue. From their description it was clear that they were only a short distance from the parking lot, so team member Van Dyke hiked out to them, walked them off the ridge, and gave them a ride down the mountain to Stowe.

Two 11 year old female youths got separated from their families while traversing the summit ridge of Mt. Mansfield between the Chin and the Visitor's Center at the top of the Toll Road. They were last seen at the "Lower Lips" travelling south ahead of the group at approximately 14:30. When their families arrived at the Visitor's Center the children were nowhere to be found. Green Mountain Club caretakers were notified of the situation, who then called Stowe Mountain Rescue. At approximately 15:45 a passing hiker reported hearing cries for help on the west side of the summit ridge in the vicinity of the Canyon and Halfway House trails. Green Mtn. Club staff hiked to that location and were able to briefly make voice contact. They also saw a trail of "trail mix" left on the trail, which was consistent with what the youths were known to have with them. Underhill/Jericho Fire Dept. and staff at Underhill State Park were notified of the situation, and located the children shortly thereafter at the base of the west side of the mountain.

A 52 year old Long Trail through hiker tripped on the summit of Whiteface Mountain and injured her kneee. She was hiking with her son who was able to assist her .4 miles to Whiteface Shelter. They felt she would be unable to hike out, so called for assistance at approximately 18:15 on 9/20.. N. Van Dyke called them on their cell phone and determined that they would have no problem spending the night at the shelter, so plans were made for an evacuation the following day. Team members started up at 6:00am. They were able to drive with ATVs to within 1 mile of the shelter, and carried a litter and wheel up to the patient (approx. 1000' vertical). She was packaged and evacuated out to the parking lot by 11:15am, where she was transported to Copley Hospital by ambulance from Morristown Rescue.

A subject called on his cell phone after getting confused while hiking to the top of Mt. Mansfield from the Stowe gondola station. He ended up on an unfamiliar trail while trying to hike back down to the gondola. He did not have a map and was unfamiliar with the area. It was determined that he was probably on the Sunset Ridge Trail heading down the west side of the mountain, opposite from where he came up. He eventually made it to the bottom and got a ride back to Stowe where his wife was waiting for him.
